My Hearts Pleasure

Mystical Mermaid

Good morning! I am so excited to be participating with Unity Stamp Co as a Growing In Unity girl this week. Each week there are two Growing in Unity Girls. Every day this week (Monday through Friday) I will post a card/project featuring a Unity Stamp/Set on my blog. Then at the end of the week, two winners will be chosen randomly from the people who have commented on my GIU blog posts. Those winners will receive a package in the mail from Unity… containing 25 random stamps.

So for my first project I made a mixed media canvas

I started with a 10 x 10 canvas and primed it with Gesso. Next I covered it using Tim Holtz distress stains in Spiced Marmalade, Mowed Lawn and Salty Ocean. After that dried I stamped the whole surface using a bubbles stamp from Unity.  Next came the fun! I covered the bottom with a piece of fishing net and then added all kinds of elements, sea shells, metal findings, tags, string of pearls and much more. After glueing them all down I primed them with gesso and then sprayed with the distress stains. Once that was all dry I layered another piece of fishing net. I added a starfish that I got at Micheals and sprayed with a glimmer mist. While the adhesive on the starfish was drying I took my mermaid stamp from Unity and stamped her on Spectrum Noir Ultra Smooth cardstock and then colored her with my copics and fussy cut her and glued her down to the center of the starfish. To finish I took a piece of chipboard and stained with the Spiced Marmalade and punched 2 holes at the top and added a string of pearls so that it could hang from the compass charm and then stamped the sentiment on a piece of cardstock that I distressed with the stains and fussy cut and attached to the sign, added more seashells and a ring with keys attached with a brad.  I had so much fun making this canvas. I am sending this off to a friend, who just adores mermaids, this week.

I will link below the Unity stamps I used on my canvas.
